FrostFrench accused of racial discrimination against former employee

A former employee of Sadie Frost's and Jemima French's label, FrostFrench, has claimed that she was fired after just one day because she was black.
Aba Yankah was awarded £5,000 compensation from the employment tribunal for injury to feelings of race discrimination and loss of income while working as a sales assistant at the label's temporary store in Burlington Arcade. She claims store manager, Sharon O'Connor, acted 'tense and distant' towards her, compared to the treatment she gave two white sales assistants. Yankah was dismissed after just three hours.

"I was not given the opportunity to demonstrate my sales skills. In discovering my race the respondent concluded I was not suitable for the role and terminated my contract," Yankah said.
While the company did not attend the hearing, it did deny allegations of racism in a written response. FrostFrench claims that Yankah was 'unenthusiastic' and 'unhelpful.' Subsequently, the tribunal found that Yankah had not sufficiently proved racial discrimination but that FrostFrench had not offered a satisfactory explanation. Yankah was awarded £3,750 for injury to feelings of race discrimination and £2,112 for loss of earnings.
A spokesperson for the FrostFrench added: "I must stress that Sadie and Jemima are deeply upset that the FrostFrench label has been drawn into something like this. Both are huge campaigners for racial equality."
