In Video: Gareth Pugh Spring/Summer 2011

Directored by Ruth Hogben's 11+ minute film for Gareth Pugh Spring/Summer 2010, from SHOWstudio. It was presented in lieu of a traditional fashion show this season. As word got out that the show would consist of a film presentation instead of a catwalk show, any murmurings of disappointment quickly turned to awe once the premiere was underway. The iconic Kristen McMenamy embodied this season's slick distillation of what we have to know Pugh for - optical prints, unexpected fabrics such as neoprene-backed jersey, rubbersied PVC and dramatic shapes - and with her own natural movement, jerked the film about in a pace that suited the sharpness of the collection. The textures and shapes of the clothes were impressively distorted and pushed to their limit with the help of McMenamy's extraordinary movement and verve in the film as well as Hogben's play with light. The trick was for the film to act as a conceptual piece in addition to showcasing the clothes as a running, fully visible lookbook and with both boxes filled, Pugh gets the upperhand in paving the way for fashion film as a conceivable alternative format to fashion shows.

Nick Knight’s Downloadable Prints

In the recent issue of Dazzed magazine did a spread on Nick Knight’s eye catching prints, and I thought to myself how wonderful these prints would be as wallpaper for my room. Well, it may not be wallpaper, but this might be the next best thing. Until this Sunday, December 7, you can download photographer Nick Knight’s a gorgeous giant monochrome print featuring Gareth Pugh’s Spring/Summer ‘09 collection, For Free( We all love that right now, don’t we?).

Each download contains a unique edition number, and is formatted as a 24-page PDF document—the image is split into sections which fit onto A4 paper. Hurry to get this once in a life time offer.

Heck-I say frame it and give it as a Christmas gift .

British designers give ELLE a new look

London Fashion Week is fast approaching. And for the new season, it's not only their catwalk collections that British designers have been fine tuning.

For ELLE's October issue, The London Issue, four British designers have created their ultimate ELLE covers. And while they may not all be showing in the capital, these designers have London spirit through and through.

Luella Bartley, now back showing at London Fashion Week, Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh, who will be showing in New York this season for the first time, and Matthew Williamson, who has put his label firmly on the fashion map with a move to the tents at Bryant Park in New York, have each created a special limited edition ELLE cover that money can't even buy. Only a few hundred of each will ever be printed, and promise to be future collectors items.

For your chance to win one of five sets of all four covers click here now. And if you want to download your favourite cover as wallpaper for your desktop, click here now.

Who Will Win British Designer of the Year?

Luella Bartley, Stella McCartney & Christopher Bailey
Christopher Kane, Gareth Pugh & Matthew Williamson
This week the date was confirmed for the British Fashion Council 2008 British Fashion Awards as 25th November. The awards will take place at Lawrence Hall in London's Westminster. Last year Stella McCartney took home British Designer of the Year and we're wondering who might steal her crown this season. Although the nominees are yet to be announced we've speculated over possible nominees.

Do you think that Stella will bag the award again, or will Christopher Bailey win it for a second time? Or will one of London's hot young designers snag it?
