British designers give ELLE a new look

London Fashion Week is fast approaching. And for the new season, it's not only their catwalk collections that British designers have been fine tuning.

For ELLE's October issue, The London Issue, four British designers have created their ultimate ELLE covers. And while they may not all be showing in the capital, these designers have London spirit through and through.

Luella Bartley, now back showing at London Fashion Week, Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh, who will be showing in New York this season for the first time, and Matthew Williamson, who has put his label firmly on the fashion map with a move to the tents at Bryant Park in New York, have each created a special limited edition ELLE cover that money can't even buy. Only a few hundred of each will ever be printed, and promise to be future collectors items.

For your chance to win one of five sets of all four covers click here now. And if you want to download your favourite cover as wallpaper for your desktop, click here now.

Who Will Win British Designer of the Year?

Luella Bartley, Stella McCartney & Christopher Bailey
Christopher Kane, Gareth Pugh & Matthew Williamson
This week the date was confirmed for the British Fashion Council 2008 British Fashion Awards as 25th November. The awards will take place at Lawrence Hall in London's Westminster. Last year Stella McCartney took home British Designer of the Year and we're wondering who might steal her crown this season. Although the nominees are yet to be announced we've speculated over possible nominees.

Do you think that Stella will bag the award again, or will Christopher Bailey win it for a second time? Or will one of London's hot young designers snag it?

Luella has hit the (virtual) rails at Urban Outfitters

As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Urban Outfitters have secured a license to stock the Autumn / Winter '08 collection from Luella. There's been a bit of confusion in the blogosphere as to whether or not this is an affordable diffusion collection along the lines of Cavalli for H&M and the like...it's not, it's the real deal. This is 'Proper' Luella, just in a slightly less intimidating atmosphere to usual stockists.
The good news is the collection has now gone live online, with a small range starting at £79. The checked shawl / scarf is my pick even if it is a slightly extortionate £95.

Snap up next season's Luella now

With the kind of weather we are having it's no wonder we are rather joyous at the prospect of Luella Bartley's Autumn/Winter collection arriving next week, and at the wondrous high street fashion store that is Urban Oufitters no less. There will be gothic checks, Russian inspired embroidery, spotted, black and spidery print chiffons. Get in line fast as Luella's line taps into the Autumn's hottest trend of punk and gothic and is sure to fly out.

Meanwhile at Topshop, leading Parisien lingerie designer Fifi Chachnil has created a special collection just for the store - a collection of 50s inspired silk lingerie available from 20 July. Naughty but very very nice.

Luella at Urban Outfitters

Get excited because Luella is about to land at Urban Outfitters

In what seems like the perfect pairing, the Brit designer will stock her autumn/winter 2008-9 collection at Urban Outfitters outlets from mid-July. That's right, those pretty paisley prom dresses, and bow clutch purses are on their way.

For those who can't wait until July, there is even better news. The collection will also be available online. Prices start at £39. Do yourself a favour, and keep http://www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk/ bookmarked.

The Luella effect - even more ways to channel the Ghost World collection

If you need further proof that the high street has fallen in love with Luella this season, Here it is. Following on from Isabelle's round-up of the best floral frilled skirts and my column about the season of the girly geek, here are some of the other best buys on the high street to get that LFW look.

Luella kicked off the trend for tiny florals with her Spring/Summer collection and teamed it with bat-print tees, boots and blazers for an eclectic, youthful look. Both Lily Allen and Kimberly Stewart have already been spotted in Luella's punky florals.

Naturally the high street isn't far behind with a varied selection of cute flippy flowery skirts. For some reason most of them have been named 'Ditsy', maybe we need to send the garment factories a thesaurus huh?

To get a slice of Luella style chic team with '90s influenced pieces and humourous accessories; retro tees, denim jackets and loafers will give the girly skirts a bit of style and punch. My favourite is the Warehouse skirt, which has a great shape and the most distinctive pattern of the five.

BATMAN

Love Luella but can't quite push to the high prices? Join the club! Luckily, her Ghost World inspired Spring / Summer collection is fairly easy to copy on a budget.

Invest in Urban Outfitters' £28 Batman logo tee, add a charity shop floral skirt and the leather (or faux leather) jacket you undoubtedly bought in the Autumn when they were everywhere...et voila. Mad hair and bold lips optional. I'd go for geeky glasses instead...
