Stella McCartney to launch exclusive collection for net-a-porter
Stella McCartney to design a capsule collection of 'best of' designs for net-a-porter.comIf you have already snapped up the pieces you loved from Stella's spring/summer 09 collection (lucky you!) and won't be able to wait until August for the new autumn/ winter 09 collection that Stella will debut on the catwalk in Paris next week (Monday 9th March to be precise) to hit stores, get an extra Stella fix this season when net-a-porter launches an exclusive collaboration with the designer later this spring.
In what net-a-porter founder Natalie Massanet describes today on WWD as the website's 'most significant commercial endeavor to date', Stella is going to create a collection of, say, net-a-porter, 'everything you need', for the woman who wants to build a wardrobe.
The pieces are still under wraps, but net-a-porter promise to reveal all soon.

Could Stella and Vivienne be designing for the Queen's guards?
Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood could be set to re-design the Queen's guards uniforms. The tall black bearskin hats sported by the Queen's Guards are something of a London landmark but have always caused controversy amongst animal lovers as one bear has to be killed for each hat made. Animal rights campaigners from PETA have long been pushing for an alternative to be used - and now Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood could be stepping in to help.
This week PETA are set to meet with officials from the Ministry of Defence to put forward
proposals for alternative materials and designs that could be used. Long-time vegetarian Stella McCartney and British fashion stalwart Vivienne Westwood are just two of the designers who PETA have on standby to design something new and improved if the M.O.D. give them the go-ahead. We can't wait to see what they come up with and hope a Stella-designed faux fur alternative can be found for the Queen's guards.

Who Will Win British Designer of the Year?
Luella Bartley, Stella McCartney & Christopher BaileyChristopher Kane, Gareth Pugh & Matthew Williamson
This week the date was confirmed for the British Fashion Council 2008 British Fashion Awards as 25th November. The awards will take place at Lawrence Hall in London's Westminster. Last year Stella McCartney took home British Designer of the Year and we're wondering who might steal her crown this season. Although the nominees are yet to be announced we've speculated over possible nominees.
Do you think that Stella will bag the award again, or will Christopher Bailey win it for a second time? Or will one of London's hot young designers snag it?

Accessories Council Annouces Designers of the Year!

With so many great designers out there, it is always nice to see some of our favorite recognized for their work. The Accessories Council has released some of the big fashion names who will be honored at the prestigious 2008 Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards Gala in November.
Among the list of style stars are Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga as Designer of the Year, celeb-favorite Stella McCartney for Green Designer of the Year, Jimmy Choo for Brand of the Year and Emilio Pucci for the Hall of Fame award.
And there are even some names that we’ve got in our closet — Banana Republic has been named as the Retailer of the Year. There are more names to be announced, but we’re thrilled with what we see so far

Hockley fur advert upsets Stella McCartney
An advert featuring a model wearing Stella McCartney lingerie underneath a fur coat has outraged the British designer, prompting her to threaten legal action. McCartney, an avid animal-rights campaigner, was reportedly angered after seeing one of her black lace bras together with a mink fur coat in an advert for Mayfair fur boutique, Hockley."Stella went absolutely ballistic when she saw it,' a source told The Mail on Sunday. "I have never seen her so angry. She hit the roof and said that she planned to sue."
"She didn't see any proofs, she just saw the campaign. It's a monumental cock-up."
The ad, which also appears in the latest issue of Vogue, has forced Hockley to issue an immediate apology.
"Hockley both requested and was told that the item was a vintage piece and apologises for any embarrassment caused to Stella McCartney. It is not Hockley's intention to use the image again," a spokesperson for the company said.

Kate Moss stars in Stella McCartney autumn/winter 2008-9 campaign
Opening up her country home in Gloucestershire for her pal Stella McCartney's autumn/winter 2008-9 campaign, was one Kate Moss. The model also stars in the latest adverts alongside Frankie Ryder, who has also just landed the Roberto Cavalli A/W campaign.
Photographed by Ines van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, McCartney admits the shoot was "really good fun."
"I don't like to pick models from nowhere: They have to suit the brand," she said. "It was nice shooting outside: seeing the girls tottering on their heels in the grass and over the rough terrain."
Hmm... sounds like a similar scene to her recent spring '09 garden party. The ads are due for release in September, meanwhile Stella has been awarded the title of Designer of the Year at last week's Elle Style Awards in Barcelona

Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” - Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday.
CAMILLE BELLEA far cry from her 10,000 BC togs, the lovely actress captivates in her Giorgio Armani Privé aquamarine silk organza gown with Swarovski crystals and Fred Leighton jewels.
MAGGIE GYLLENHAALArriving on the arm of designer Peter Som (not pictured), the Dark Knight actress is charming in her purple frock and antique Fred Leighton jewels
TAYLOR SWIFTNo trace of a small town girl in this country singer's Badgley Mischka Couture gold and bronze sequined fishtail gown and matching Badgley Mischka accessories.
JENNIFER CONNELLYThe face of Balenciaga wears – who else? – a Balenciaga black and white asymmetrical dress with a dazzling necklace.
LIV TYLERThe New Yorker is a modern goddess in her shimmering black one-shoulder Calvin Klein, loose waves and stacks of Fred Leighton bracelets.
HILARY DUFFThe singer sparkles in a silver sequined Elie Saab gown and dramatic Columbian emerald and diamond Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

FERGIEKa-pow! The singer packs a punch in her bold one-armed black Calvin Klein gown and dramatic ponytail

Two of my favourite celeb looks at last night's Met Costume Institute Gala in New York were from Blake Lively and Christina Ricci. Blake's recent penchant for Ralph Lauren saw her wear a black fishtail number from the designer's autumn/winter '08 collection. Note: short black evening gloves are making a return.Scooping my vote for the best-dressed celeb on the night was Christina Ricci. She looked simply divine in a pink and red floor-sweeping gown designed by Givenchy. It was a fantastic choice for the petite actress, with a nod to the gala's Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy theme in embracing a Wonder Woman style bustier. Love the hair and make-up too!
EVA LONGORIAThe star is all ruffled up in her swirling purple Marchesa gown and Jimmy Choo accessories.

Michelle Trachtenberg, you know-the new one from Gossip Girl, also attended last night wearing a Grecian gown. Her choice of dress isn't one of my favourites, could her hero be Xena?
Our very own Thandie Newton flew the flag for the Brits in this lacy black dress and cape from Chanel's autumn/winter 08 collection. I am not overly impressed by her choice, it borders on lingerie, but perhaps if she lost the cape it might not be so nightie-like.
EVA MENDESThe new face of Calvin Klein takes to the red carpet in a sharp turquoise gown from the label and Shoes by Jimmy Choo
SCARLETT JOHANSSONAccompanied by the designers, the newly engaged 23-year-old diverts attention from her custom made Dolce & Gabbana ivory tulle corseted gown and 19th century Fred Leighton jewels with her own sparkling diamond ring.
Kate Moss and Stella McCartneyBlowing most of her fellow celebs out of the water was Gisele Bundchen whose pale pink halter neck gown, from Versace's autumn/winter '08 collection, screamed red carpet siren. Our highest-earning model was joined by her football star boyfriend, Tom Brady.
BEYONCÉ KNOWLESThe newlywed is the picture of femininity in her pale pink strapless silk organza Armani Privé gown and jaw-dropping Lorraine Schwartz jewels
RACHEL BILSONThe petite actress goes for the dark side in her high-necked black Calvin Klein dress and heavy bangs
CLAIRE DANESThe actress shows off her lithe physique in a fitted black silk crepe Narcisco Rodriguez gown and Harry Winston diamonds, accenting her eyes with dramatic smoky makeup
Geroge Clooney The evening's co-host of the "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art makes a dashing duo with his girlfriend, in a vintage black low-backed Giorgio Armani gown.
JULIA ROBERTS AND GIORGIO ARMANIOne of the night's co-hosts is stunning in Cathy Waterman jewels and a silver couture beaded mesh gown by yet another one of the evening's other hosts: Giorgio Armani
On fashion's night of nights we couldn't forget a few of our favourite young starlets. Mischa Barton stood out in this unusual ruffled embellished number designed by Missoni. I definitely wouldn't say it was my favourite look of the night, but it is an improvement on some of her recent disasters. She was joined by Margherita Missoni who chose a rather unflattering tiered strapless gown. I hope she isn't hiding a baby underneath there! It wouldn't be a New York fashion event without those twin style mavens - the Olsens. Escorted by shoe guru Christian Louboutin, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen arrived at the glamorous bash wearing Diane von Furstenberg.
Showing off their individual styles, the twins failed to inspire in their choices of gowns. Although if I had to choose one it would be Ashley's black column dress with cut-out sides over Mary-Kate's granny-esque gold number. However both girls seem a stranger to a decent hair and make-up artist. Tut, tut!
DAVID AND VICTORIA BECKHAMWhile the soccer star goes for a classic tuxedo, his always-daring wife is dramatic in an ivory vintage Giorgio Armani beaded evening dressing coat from the Fall 1989 collection.
NAOMI WATTSThe new mom is an all-out screen siren in her white halter gown, vintage Fred Leighton diamonds and red lips
Katie Holmes continuing her allegiance to Giorgio Armani – he designed her wedding dress! – the star goes for all-out glamour in a vintage red sequined bustier and full ball gown from the designer's Fall 1993 collection paired with striking blue high heels.
Tilda, 47, was accompanied by Justin Bond.
