Dior presents Dior Couture Patrick Demarchelier

Photographs Patrick Demarchelier | Publisher Rizzoli
The meeting between a great photographer and a mythical couture house, “DIOR COUTUREPATRICK DEMARCHELIER” presents a fabulous retrospective of the Dior Haute Couturecollections, from the first show in 1947 to today.
Patrick Demarchelier has always admired Dior Haute Couture. For him it is the birthplace of“unique pieces that are veritable sculptures”. He therefore wanted to pay tribute to the superlativesplendour and expertise of Dior creations.
Rendered still more sublime by Patrick Demarchelier, the designs created by Christian Dior himselfand his successors, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan and John Galliano, prove to be modernand timeless: a magic that flirts with eternity.
From Shanghai to Times Square, the grand staircase of the Paris Opera House to the garden ofthe Musée Rodin, places that the House of Dior treasures, Patrick Demarchelier captures all thatis quintessentially Dior, personified by the most beautiful women in the world, from CharlizeTheron to Gisèle Bundchen. Here the greatest talents honour the Dior legend.

Givenchy: Haute Couture

Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy has moved up to the point where he's hitting the tricky balance that couture demands: developing recognizable signatures, on the one hand, and spinning fantasy, on the other. He had a theme for Fall—anticipating the trip to Peru he plans to take in August. That gave him a color scheme, from the tobacco browns of gauchos to the vivid pinks, folkloric alpaca blanket stripes, and patterned knits of Inca culture. To his credit, though, he used those devices to develop more of what his growing audience has learned to love about him: his young, modern, and urban take on chic dressing, punctuated with incisive tailoring and a flair for intense shots of decoration.
