Olsens launch new book 'Influence' in New York City

Team Olsen combined powers yesterday for the New York launch of their style book Influence (you can hear them talk about the book with Oprah Below).
Mary-Kate (in black) and Ashley (in red)... (well, I think that's how it is anyway... just when I thought I had figured out who was who, they go and match their hair up to make things really tricky!) looked fittingly style-worthy in their respective get-ups.

But who had the edge?

Besides discussing what they eat for breakfast *snore* the Olsen twins' interview with Oprah was actually filled with some pretty interesting stuff. In this clip, Mary-Kate and Ashley discuss their new style book, Influence, and what it was like to interview Karl Lagerfeld the day before his runway show.

Olsen does Menswear

Ashley Olsen announces menswear range for the row
The Olsens are obviously very busy at the moment, their coffee table fashion tome 'Influence' is released at the end of October and now they've announced plans for a menswear range which could be available as soon as next Autumn.

This could be more of a solo venture however as Ashley has taken control over The Row until her sister Mary-Kate 'has her personal life together'.

Either way, The Row has proven itself to be one of the more interesting -albeit expensive, celebrity ranges so it will be interesting to see what Ashley comes up with.

The Olsens branch out into footwear with Steve Madden for Elizabeth and James

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

It looks like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are continuing the expansion of their Elizabeth and James line.

After doing a line of jewellery with Robert Lee Morris, the twins are now teaming up with Steve Madden on Elizabeth and James shoes.

The question our friends at Fashionista are asking is will they be affordable shoes a la Madden's usual sold alongside $700 dresses, or will we be seeing the advent of $500 Steve Madden pumps?

Elle UK September: Mary-Kate Olsen

(subscriptions cover)
On her unique dress sense: "I love playing dress up. I get inspired by old films, weird things. It could just be the person sitting across from me or it could be a full Victorian costume"

On media attitudes to her clothing choices: "What I find odd though is that a weekly [magazine] will come out describing my outfit as a fashion disaster, while the fashion industry actually respects what I wear."

On the Olsens' clothing lines The Row, and Elizabeth and James: "I think more of my energy goes in to Elizabeth and James, [The Row is] Ashley's baby."

To find out Karl Lagerfeld and Margherita Missoni's views on Mary-Kate's style, as well as what she's learned about fashion from working on her own clothing lines with Ashley, just read more
On her work experiences: "I have so much more respect for fashion designers now because it's hard work and never ending. It's not a movie. You can't wrap it and go start something else."
Margherita Missoni on MK: "With her you already know future generations will look at her as an icon."
Karl Lagerfeld is also a big fan of her look: "I like the way Mary-Kate is mixing Chanel with other things, life is not a fashion show, and I find a total designer look boring."

Make sure you check out the full interview (and photo spread) in the September issue of Elle magazine, out tomorrow(wednesday).

The Olsens team up with U.S designer Robert Lee Morris to create Jewellery line

Our favourite fashion duo is at it again. Not content with two best selling, ready to wear labels (the Row and Elizabeth and James), the pair are now teaming up with CFDA Lifetime Achievement winner Morris, to add a jewellery collection to their Elizabeth and James line. And with autumn 2008 shaping up to be the season of statement jewellery - their timing could not be better.

‘We both love accessories and they’ve always been important to us,’ Mary-Kate told WWD recently. Indeed the duo are always the first to rock the season’s new and more directional accessories trends, so we have high hopes for their new collaboration with Morris who has a career that spans over 40 years, working with some of fashion’s biggest names from Calvin Klein to Donna Karan, and more recently the Olsen’s most fashionable friend, Karl Lagerfeld.

Thick metal cuffs (natch), statement rings, necklaces and earrings – which all the catwalks agree are back in a big way for winter 2008 – will all feature when the collection launches in Intermix stores in the U.S in September. Prices will start at $65 to $700, which means that whether you’re after an easy, seasonal update or a more timeless collectable piece, you should find what you’re looking for.

The Olsen’s decision to launch a jewellery collection before a bag or shoe line is a statement in itself, showing these two have an acute sense of the next big thing, and that they are shaping up next season to become an even bigger fashion force than before (it was recently reported that brand Olsen is worth $1 billion). But with their penchant for all accessories from platform boots to clutch bags, we’re hoping a shoe and bag collaboration will soon follow.

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

We love Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s more affordable line Elizabeth + James, and we aren’t the only ones. Just this week, fashionista Nicole Richie and designer Lauren Conrad were sporting some of the line’s Spring looks.

Then when we caught Nylon’s sneak peak on what to expect for fall, we had to share it with you. With prepster plaid skirts, bright colors like electric pink, flannel and more we couldn’t help but think Gossip Girl. Nylon rightfully calls it “trust fund babe goes to a rock concert”. We love it! Tell us: What do you think of Elizabeth + James’s fall collection?

Costume Institute Sneak Peek: Who’s Wearing What!

It’s one of the biggest fashion evenings of the year, and Monday night’s annual Costume Institute Gala in New York has a few famous surprises in store — including the ultra-exclusive seating plan.

Fashionweekdaily.com reports that stylish twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will dine with Diane Von Furstenberg in custom gowns by the designer. Gisele Bundchen and quarterback beau Tom Brady will share a table with Donatella Versace, while Hilary Duff will take a seat with the editors of Allure. And of course, Anna Wintour and her glamorous Vogue team will mingle with co-hosts Julia Roberts and George Clooney

We can’t wait to see what happens when so many stylish stars collide.

The list of glitterati who will be attending next Monday's Met Costume Institute Gala continues to be revealed. We already mentioned that our very own Tilda Swinton will be dressed by Miuccia Prada.

Well, no surprises with the latest news that old pals Katie Holmes and hubby Tom Cruise will be accompanied by co-chair Giorgio Armani.

Other celebrity/designer dates confirmed at this stage are new mum Jennifer Lopez, who is rumoured to be attending with Alberta Ferretti (no Cavalli then?), as well as Kate Bosworth with Chanel, and Eva Mendes, Rachel Bilson and Fergie with Calvin Klein... geez talk about pimping yourself out!

Meanwhile, WWD has got the low-down on who else we can expect including Kate Moss, Mariah Carey, Renée Zellweger, Scarlett Johansson, Claire Danes, and Mischa Barton. As for the designers - look out for Valentino, Tom Ford, Dolce & Gabbana and Donatella Versace.
My money is on Victoria Beckham and Roberto Cavalli... or perhaps Marc Jacobs?! Either way, it's shaping up to be HUGE!
Check back here on Tuesday for all their fabulous fashions.

Mary-kate and Ashley Olsen

Not content with acting or their fashion icon status, the Olsen twins have now turned their hand to literature, releasing a coffee table book.

The multi-million dollar pair have called on all their celebrity pals to feature in the fashion book, entitled influence.

Ashley Olsen has described the new endeavour saying the book will include 'the most interesting, challenging, creative people we know - the ones who helped pave the way for us and our generation.'

Artists and designers such as Bob Colacello, Terry Richardson and Jack Pierson have all been named as contributors. According to their publisher, Penguin, the book will feature 'exclusive photographs of Ashley and Mary-Kate from world renowned photographer Rankin, and a wide variety of other never-before-seen materials and interviews from Mary-Kate and Ashley's personal collections.'

Mary-Kate Olsen said of the project: 'Ashley and I interviewed the people who have inspired us, with the hope that they will inspire and teach others.'

They’re young, they’re fashionable, and they want to show the world their Influence. Which will be their fashion book. Set to be released in Autumn by Penguin.

Is this something you would buy and display proudly on your coffee table?

Cause i will
