ASOS Magazine December 2011: Jessica Chastain by Alex Sainsbury

The new December 2011 issue of ASOS Magazine featuring cover star, Jessica Chastain, the 30-year-old American actress was shot exclusively by photographer Alex Sainsbury and ASOS in NYC wearing ASOS mesh spot midi dress, ASOS pearl & stone collar, Disney Couture & Mawi minnie mouse ears necklace. Jessica has starred in a string of hit films this year including The Help, The Tree of Life, The Debt, and Take Shelter. Her next project is The Wettest Country in the World slated for a Dec release co-starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce and Mia Wasikowska.

On being a redhead:
“I got teased a lot when I was a little kid. Bullied for being a redhead. When you become an adult, that stops. But then when you become a known actor, it comes back. People write mean things on message boards...people feel that they can say mean, mean things...it’s really shocking and strange.”
On filming The Help with Emma Stone:
“Filming that was like being at summer camp. We were all in this small town – Greenwood, Mississippi – so we would work all day, then go and eat because we had to gain weight...It’s really fun because it means you get to eat a lot and you don’t have to worry about working out, but it also means that all of your clothes get too tight...There’s something sensual about being heavier, you feel like a painter’s muse.”

On her new success:
“I’m not in it for the fame or money. A lot of my childhood (outside San Francisco) we were very, very poor. I’ve experienced that. It’s tough, but I can get through it. I could be very happy working Off-Broadway in theatre for the rest of my life as long as I was acting – that’s what makes me happy.”

On her day-to-day style:
“I live by the ocean in California, so it’s Chloe sweaters and jackets. I absolutely adore Louis Vuitton...i love the color, there is so much play. And I love new designers, Juan Carlos Obando and Prabal Gurung. I always try different things, try to change my look... I can’t wear all things...I could never be a model...What I am is a storyteller, so when I see an amazing dress, I think about the story of the dress and get into character.”

On her first red carpet experience:
Brad Pitt on one arm, Sean Penn on the other – “The best accessories I could have asked for to go with that dress (Zac Posen).”

When Madonna presented her with the inaugural Gucci Award for Women in Cinema:
“It’s a little embarrassing to even talk about, because you think, ‘What has happened to my life?!’”

When Vogue named her its latest style crush:
“Vogue? Are you kidding me? I grew up buying Vogue.”

ASOS Magazine: November 2011: Isabel Lucas

November 2011 issue of ASOS Magazine featuring cover star, ISABEL LUCAS, the 26-year-old Australian actress was shot exclusively by ASOS in Laurel Canyon, CA and shot by photographer Jason Nocito. Isabel has starred in films like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Daybreakers, The Pacific mini-series and the upcoming Immortals premiering Nov with Kellan Lutz and Freida Pinto. Isabel wears a Jonathan Saunders bird print jersey maxi dress with ASOS lace & mesh sleeve top, ASOS premium gold pyrite ring, ASOS two vintage style watches on the cover.

Feature and Behind-The-Scenes footage is live now: www.ASOS.com/magazine

On how she found her style:
“I never really paid much attention to fashion growing up. It’s really just colours or the way that things are woven. It’s individual vintage pieces I love, but then when Chanel sends you a beautiful skirt, that’s special too.”

On what she’s learnt from Hollywood:
“I like playing smaller characters in films. It’s been feeling right not to have all the weight on me to carry it. That will come along when it makes sense. On a film I did called Daybreakers, I would go on the set and spend hours watching Sam Neill and Willem Dafoe.”

On how acting has brought her out her shell:
“I was shy when I was young, and I wouldn’t have had the guts to go after it myself. But then I did acting courses for a year and Home and Away was my first audition. I remember being overwhelmed by the fact people would even see me for an audition. I got booked and it was a big shift. Suddenly I was 18 and moving to Sydney. Acting has helped me come out of my shell. I always thought I was too sensitive, but now I know I can channel that for work.”

On writing:
“Angus (her boyfriend, the singer, Angus Stone) is a beautiful writer and that inspires me. I’ve been writing diaries since I was six. Sometimes it’s to get clarity on a certain issue, or to never forget something that I want to savour… Maybe it’s my form of therapy.”

FEATURE and BEHIND-THE-SCENES footage is live now: www.ASOS.com/magazineIPAD version launches this Friday, September 2nd

About filming Snow White…“It is so surreal.  Everyone calls me “Snow” on-set and I’m working with Julia Roberts!”
-About The Blind Side…“When I got that movie, no one on-set expected it to do what it did, so there wasn’t that pressure of it being a huge budget movie.  It’s almost better that I didn’t get cast in something that had so many expectations from the get-go.”
About her upcoming film Abduction… “I never thought in a million years I’d be doing stunts, flying off trains, setting people on fire, running through swamps at night, but it’s fun and I love taking chances.”
About Karl Lagerfeld...”I heard talk at the table he was leaving and I hadn’t met him yet.  So I grabbed the PR person, and remember sprinting through the Met Museum in my Chanel dress and huge Chanel shoes just to say hello to him.”
About fall fashion...”I’m into big sweaters, and cool combat boots.  I love mixing and matching things.  Autumn/winter is great, because you’re able to mix feminine and masculine.  Cool army jackets with dresses, tights and boots.  I love having that masculine, edgy touch but being flirty and fun at the same time.”

ASOS Magazine: July 2011: Zoe Kravitz

ASOS Magazine July 2011 issue featuring cover star ZOE KRAVITZ, 20-year-old American actress, daughter of rockstar Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet (The Cosby Show) and upcoming star of X-Men: First Class (June 3), shot by photographer Danielle Levitt.

ZOE KRAVITZ for ASOS Magazine
The Rock ‘N’ Roll Life of an Everyday Girl
Pretty, cool, connected.  She’s been in the style spotlight for years thanks to her impeccable taste, uber-cool parents and fashionable friends (Jay-Z, Alexander Wang, Olivia Thirlby, Jennifer Lawrence), but with a role in X-Men: First Class, ZOE KRAVITZ is about to be as famous for her acting as she is for her wardrobe.

“All that ‘it girl’ shit makes me kind of uncomfortable.  I’m only at the beginning of my career, but I feel successful in that I haven’t sold out in any way, shape or form.  I feel good about the choices I’ve made, and I don’t feel like I’ve let go of any of my values.  Fame has become this obsession for people, which kind of creeps me out.”
“We (Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and boyfriend Michael Fassbender) were living in London for four months and it was like X-Men summer camp, so we all hung out at each other’s houses after filming, went out to pubs…I lived in Notting Hill, right by Portobello…I’m spending all my money on flea-market shopping!”

“I used to be a little embarrassed by how she (mom Lisa Bonet) and my dad (Lenny Kravitz) would dress…but now I steal their clothes all the time.”
